Hoping somebody can help with this but I fear an expensive repair. Anyway I have had a Sony A7iii and the Sony 24-70 f2.8 GM lens for around 2 years. The lens has worked faultlessly up to now, eye focus has always been tack sharp as have the other focus modes.
Camera and lens are both on latest firmware, I have the camera set up to use the continuous eye tracking with back button focus and the lens focus hold button set up as a custom to activate the original eye focus too.
I started to do a shoot last week with a model using HSS flash and during the test shots I noticed the eye focus was soft. Didn’t matter whether I was using the the back button eye tracking focus or the lens button, different camera settings flash or no flash the eye focus was soft. The eye focus was working in so much as an eye was quickly identified and the little green eye square appeared and remained over the eye.
I tried my 85 1.4GM and the focus was sharp as it should be.
I have tried my friends 24-70 f2.8GM On my camera and again the eye focus is tack sharp as it should be.
It’s looking like somehow my 24-70 Has developed an eye focus problem, there are areas of the shot in focus (eg hair strands) but images have lost their sharpness when using eye focus.
The lens has not been dropped or otherwise damaged.
Is there anyway I can rest the firmware or any other test I can with the lens please?
Anybody else had the same problem at all? Nothing comes up on a google search.
I am aware that DSLR lens may need calibrating form time to time but I dint think Mirrorless lens lost their sharpness like this?
Any advice appreciated please, thanks in advance.
