Android 8.0 Oreo/ 9.0 Pie

Is it OK to expect Android Oreo on 2017 Sony Android TVs?

I can confirm that the Android UI dim/brightness problem is solved with 6.6520 on 65XF9005.

Just upgraded, the TV looks like Nougat standards.

The OTA updates often take ages to appear, so you need to follow the link mentioned and download/extract to your USB stick then restart the TV with the USB in the slot and it will update.

@joelippaYou can update the TV via USB quite easily, the updates are available on the TV support page linked below.

However I would strongly advise against updating your KD-65XE8596, I have the same TV as you and updated when the first version of Oreo came out and it 'broke' my TV.  It got stuck in a permanent reboot loop when connected to the internet.  The 2nd update wasn't any better so I'm not prepared to try this latest one.

My XF 9005 updated ok. No boot looping.

It's supposed to play nice with 'certain' routers but the first thing it did was tell me the TV is not connected to the internet, when it actually is 😀

Great fix !!

Plus they've turned up the brightness on the Home screen <meh>

Hi can you please confirm if the susbtile is dimmed like the previous version? or now the subtitle is white again?  Personally i quite like the dimmed subtitle( to avoid blooming in dark scene) thanks

And now the question is whether it unfixes it for the models that had no problem with UI brightness on the 6.6510 update (e.g. xe9005).

But since the only changes are:

  • Improves Wi-Fi connectivity with certain routers
  • Improves readability of the on-screen menus on specific models

, I think that I will skip this update on my xe9005.

It is a good thing though that Sony has responded.

Since the update the BBC iPlayer app has stopped working. Freezes the home
screen and times-out back to TV tuner. Several reboots have not resolved
this.

I have reported this, although of course it's more likely to my TV which is
a 'Friday afternoon' build, causing multiple random reboots regardless of
software versions, messages that it's not connected to the internet when it
is and refusal to turn on without a soft reboot.
