When connected via ethernet I cannot also connect via wi-fi so how do I use the built in Chromecast on my XG9005?

Good point. Never had an ethernet enabled version.
What I had to do was disconnect LAN, connect via wifi, configure chromecast then plug LAN back in.
It would be handy if that was mentioned in the TV's instructions somewhere.

Thanks Peter_S but that's not what Wi-Fi Direct does.
Chromecast takes over the stream so phone/tablet and TV need to be connected to the wi-fi that's connected to the internet, not a direct device-to-device setup.
I tried it anyway but no joy.

The only requirement for Chromecast is for the two devices to be connected to the same network. It doesn't matter if it's Ethernet or Wi-Fi that's used.
Instead of trying to connect the TV via Wi-Fi, just try casting from your phone onto the TV straight away.

Unless the TV is set to network via WiFi, there is no Chromecast connection.
Chromecast is, inherently, connected via WiFi.
Your tag suggests you are a 'specialist'. If so, can you tell me exactly how to connect Chromecast when the TV is connected via LAN?

You can use a physical Chromecast device over Ethernet with Google’s Ethernet adaptor for Chromecast; this shows that Chromecast isn’t inherently wifi.
However, you do need to have made the initial setup via WiFi before you can switch to using this method.
But what about Chromecast built-in? Does that include a virtual Ethernet adaptor?

though why the first answer appears there, or where the expansion of the second one mentions Ethernet as quoted there in bold, I haven’t been able to find.
And the issue may still be one of requiring an initial setup via WiFi, only after which you can use Ethernet; I don’t know.
You may be more motivated, or better equipped, to dig into this than I am though, and the troubleshooters may be more helpful when you have both sending and receiving device actually present to work with.
This didn't work my 65-X900H (XH90). Still no Chromecast connection using LAN. With WIFI works fine.
My KD-XH8505 has never been connected via WiFi, yet the Chromecast built in works fine. I've also got Chromecast built in (audio) on my Pioneer A/V receiver and that works fine on an ethernet connection too. Sounds like a network issue to me, but then, I'm no networking expert 🙄 ..........maybe make sure all the WiFi access points are set to let your router be the only DHCP device setting the IP configuration?

Is your TV up to date? When you say it doesn't work, do you mean that you don't get the option to cast content through supported apps or do you get the option but the casting doesn't complete when you try it?
The only requirement for casting is for the devices to be connected to the same network, so what we have here isn't a technical limitation. I'd start with unplugging the TV from the mains for a few minutes and restarting the router.
