KD-50X75WL channel reception problems after upgrading to firmware v6.7630

Hello.

I upgraded the firmware from v6.7532 to v6.7630 3 days ago.

I prepared a USB stick for it but I tried the online update instead.

The update was successful, the system checked clean, but the channels got messed up.

Most of the digital ones had disappeared or had no signal and the standard channels would have their streaming broken up too often to be pleasant.

Trying to reapply the upgrade through USB didn't work since the same version was already installed.

I went through all the known ways of restarting the TV, rescanning in auto and/or manual mode with no change to the channels situation. At the same time, Youtube could stream 4K+ videos without a glitch so it can't be my internet connection (I'd think).

I haven't done a reset yet because I'm not sure if it would be just lost time. After all, if it's a firmware problem, the same firmware would be there after the reset.

I can't imagine what else could the problem be and I'm open to suggestions. I even thought of trying to modify the firmware by raising its version by a digit and retry the USB route

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

I take it you are referring to TV signals received via a TV aerial and affects both HD channels and SD channels.

The update you refer to has been out now for a month and I don't recall anyone else on these pages

posting about reception problems after installing this update.

I am sure there would be many such posts if this update was responsible for affecting the TVs primary use, after all this software was made available to address the problems the previous software had introduced.

Have you checked the cabling from your aerial to the TV and also the co-axial connectors them elves, perhaps the recent cold snap has affected their seating. Does the aerial have a signal booster attached can you confirm if this is working correctly.

If you have any other TVs in the house using the same aerial and they are fine it wouldn't be an issue with the aerial or any signal booster. If you do another TV in the house can you move it to the room where the  KD-50X75WL is and connect it to the 75WLs aerial connection, if that TV does not get reception then it is a problem with the cabling and or connectors in that room.

If you have checked the physical connections with your TV and they check out then perhaps a Factory Reset would be the next stage.

Let us know how you get on.

A quick update I have just applied the v6.7630 update to my XR-42A90K and there are no problems with TV reception on all multiplexes.

Much appreciated for your comments. You got me thinking and it seems I had it all wrong.

For the last few years the aerial cable on that side of the highrise had been broken somewhere along the line. We made do with a randomly bad signal until the TV breathed its last and the Sony replaced it.

When I turned it on and saw all the channels there, I thought they somehow got them through the internet, smart TV and all... I didn't even think of that broken aerial but somebody had connected it to the TV so it didn't hang about.

I spoke to a couple of people in the building and it looks like at about the same time, they had started losing the digital stations too. It was a fluke that I happened to upgrade the firmware then and that threw me off the track.

To cut a long story short, a technician came and checked the aerial. Its booster was cooked and needs replacing.

He also said, the highrise is in a good position vs the broadcasting towers, so it doesn't need a very strong signal to bring the stations in, which probably explains why it was playing OK all those years even with a broken line.

In any case, he'll come by tomorrow for the booster setup and hopefully fix that broken line of mine.

I'll post the results late tomorrow.

Thank you again for the helping hands.
