Sony KD-65AF8 with Sonos Arc

So i have updated my Bose 300 Soundtouch to the new Sonos Arc.

I never got the Bose to connect with the HDMI ARC so had to use the optical cable option. I spoke with PC World tech who told me it wasn't compatible.

I am having the same issue with the Sonos now, the arc connects to the HDMI Arc but there is no sound output. Once again I have had to connect using the optical cable

So 2 questions 1) Is there some other settings i need to make to the TV to make the HDMI output sound?

2) is there a lot of difference between the optical cable v HDMI arc?

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Have you tried a factory reset?

Best wishes,

M

Hi Michael

I have tried everything. It just wont work. I plugged the old Bose to a Samsung TV and it worked straight away.

There seems to be an issue with the Sony TV. Unfortunately its out of warranty now too 😞

Thanks

Hi again,

When did you first notice the issue in the first place?

Have you made sure the software is up to date: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/oled-tvs-android-a8f_af8-series/kd-65af8/downloads/000166...

Perhaps a factory reset if the issue remains: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-lcd-tvs-android-/kd-75xg8505/artic...

I have the exact same issue with my Sonos Arc and the Sony 65A1. Works with optical but won’t work with hdmi ARC. The Sonos Arc works fine on my other samsung TV 😞

be good to know if anyone has worked out what the issue is... I have also noticed that the Bravia connect doesn’t show up any devices (PS4 or sky Q) anymore

Hi Cheeky,

Have you already tried the steps I suggested to Ashman thus far?

Here's more of what you can try:

**Workaround 1

  • Turn off your audio device using the audio remote control
  • Turn off your TV using the TV remote control
  • Turn on your TV using the TV remote

**Workaround 2

  • Change the Speakers settings by going to [HOME] > [Settings] > [Sound] > [Speakers] > [TV speakers]
  • Turn off the TV with the TV remote control
  • Turn on the TV with the TV remote control

**Workaround 3

  • Set the BRAVIA Sync control option to on by going to [HOME] > [Settings] > [External inputs] > [BRAVIA Sync settings] > [BRAVIA Sync control]
  • Select [Yes] when [Remove recognized devices from the list] is displayed
NOTE: The BRAVIA Sync control will be switched off.
  • Select BRAVIA Sync control again to switch it on
NOTE: The Speakers settings will switch to [Audio system] automatically.
