Ah it turns out with a bit of digging Sony is moving from android.  "Sony continues to support YouView on its Android models. Freeview Play will be on Linux-based sets."

NO! Sony does not "support" youview as it doesn't work on the TV I have. Ie. It can't support channel 800s making the catch-up services useless for me.

Hi

I have never tried using the 'youview' on my Bravia TV so have never heard of 'Freeview Play'.

I have no outside tv aeriel so it doesn't make any difference to me how 'good' or more likely crap this is on MY tv - Sony Bravia kd-43xe8396 - since I can't use it anyway.

As for 'smart features' I have used Samsung (not android) AND Sony Android TV's and BOTH have really good picture image quality, and only just passable sound quality from built in speakers - so I use external speakers (Creative Labs Gigaworks T20 2.0 channel active speakers).

BOTH the Samsung 24" Smart LED tv and my new Sony have CRAP software for their apps as far as I am concerned. I really hate the sh1te Android, but the Samsung is even worse!

Most 'aftermarket' apps (daily motion, break, etc, etc) for the Samsung do NOT work at all (except Youtube, BBC iPlayer and a few uk independant catch up channels - not itv).

Android TV apps - youtube and at least 12-15 others tried so far DO work on the Sony (but NOT on the Samsung), but the Android OS is still crap in the way it 'works' because do much does NOT work at all.

As a result I useo2nd Gen Fire TV 'stick on my old 32" Samsung (not Smart) TV in bedroom, and a 4k Fire TV 'box' on my 43" Sony 4k TV, used in living room.

The little 24" Samsung Smart TV is currently redundant, as is a 32" LG with EXCELLENT picture but really crap sound with no audio line out or headphones, only ONE scart & ONE hdmi & co-axial aeriel input. Good job this LG was 'free' as it is no use to me.

I also do NOT recommend ANY model of LG or Panasonic (not smart models) having used those brands. Panasonic have awful user interface & LG tv sound (& connections were awful) even if they both had good pictures.

Blessings & Peace to all

Bob
