having trouble with moonshots and white balance

i a having trouble trying to take moon shots and my white balance i have my wb on auto when i try to take moonshots it is just a big ball of white or it is all blurry

the camera i am using is a sony dsc h400 cybershot

Why do you think the white balance is the problem? It is more likely to be the exposure or the focus.

 

Try the camera in Manual mode and set the focus to infinity manually using full zoom. Try setting f8 (as your lens is probably sharpest at  this setting), shutter 1/200 sec, ISO=200 and set the camera to take bracketed exposures using exposures either side of these.

 

If you would prefer to use the camera with auto exposure, then set it to 'spot' metering.

 

Results will be more consistent if you have a tripod.

 

I'm sure you will get other suggestions.
