24fps or 60fps? That is the question.

A video plays back on my laptop at 24fps. I use VLC media player.

The same video, whether USB or bluray disc plays back at 60fps.

Is this the norm or am I missing a setting?

My kit:

Sony 55" XF9005

Sony Soundbar HT-ZF9

Sony 4k player UBP-X800

Hello @Blumine1818,

would you please elaborate whether I understand it correcly - the file is a 24fps file, which you can confirm in the properties of said file on your computer?

Do you play it from USB on the Blu-Ray player or on the TV? If it is played back at 60fps, that can mean two things - the playback device interpolates images - the TV receives a 60fps signal but the file is still being played back at the original framerate with repeating images.

Hi Nic

That is correct.

Thus far I have just played via USB to the bluray player.

This also happens with 24 FPS video files I burn to bluray and playback through the player.

I notice a slight degradation in playback quality at 60fps.
