I have a BDVE 5.1 Home Cinema BD Player connected via a Sony HDMI ARC Cable to a Sony KDL46NX713 TV (HDMI 1 in ARC port). All have been working fine until recently until I tried to play a blu-ray disk and noticed there was no sound coming out of the 'Audio Systems' Home Cinema 5.1 Surround speakers. I have since tried std DVD's and CD's but nothing comes out of the Audio System, but will play thru the 'TV Speakers'.
I have reviewed the configuration of the individual components, and have performed a factory reset and upgraded the BDVE 370 firmware but no success.
I can not think of why there should be no direct sound via the surround speakers as the system is working fine with the separate Virgin Media Box (connected via Sony HDMI directly to the TV (via HDMI Port 4), and also with the Amazon Fire Stick via the HDMI 2 In port.
Is there a fault developed on the media player or have I inadvertently changes some setting in the configuration?

Hey PDShaw,
Here's something else that you can try; set BD Audio MIX to Off, and Audio Output to Speaker+HDMI under the Audio Settings menu.
If you feel like testing out different combinations of settings. You can find more on page 54 of the player's Manual -I've been reading through- here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4178/41782471M.pdf
Let us know how it goes with both the settings and the new cable. Cheers.
Hi there,
Hopefully a community member can help.
Best wishes,

I'd recommend checking the settings of the player since from what you've described it seems most likely to be related to that. But you can also disconnect and unplug everything for a couple of minutes to de-power them removing any exces charge from surges for example.
Many thanks Joe, I have originally tried disconnecting everything including cables and unplugging all of the electrical equipment after I restored the factory settings. However, it is worth trying again. I'll keep you posted.
Hi PDShaw,
Is there any progress?
Cheers,
Rose
Hello Rose,
Unfortunately, the advice did not resolve the problem.
I have ordered an Optical Audio Cable to see if I can resolve the 5.1 audio output issue from the BD Player.
Regards, Paul.

Fantastic Joe! not sure which of these settings has resolved the problem (actually set the 'Audio Output' to 'Speakers'), however, the 5.1 surround sound is working perfectly from the BD's, DVD's and CD's.
I am still waiting for the now redundant optical Audio cable, so this will go into the bottom drawer with all of the old TV remotes (take may come in handy someday).
Thanks again for your time and trouble 🙌 😊
