HT-MT500 Sound Bar

Not sure if anyone can help as I think there may be a problem with the unit, but it is less than 2 years old and has started acting up. Very disappointing for such an expensive product. Firstly, I can't connect any devices via Bluetooth anymore. The remote control does not function correctly in that pressing the Home button does not produce anything on the Sony TV screen. When highlighting the HDMI port that the sound bar is connected to via the TVs input button, the screen is blank. Switching on the sound bar with 'TV' as attge default renders the actual TV mute. So many issues that have suddenly just appeared! Batteries in remote are new. HDMI cable is fine. I think I may have to take for repair unless anyone can advise a workaround. Many thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I'd recommend following the steps in this link to check if the Home button on the remote actually works: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00025283https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/suppo...

If it doesn't, you can order a replacement through EET: https://uk.eetgroup.com/i/149326911-Sony-Remote-Commander-RMT-AH310E

Hi brsteve20

Welcome to the community.

I'll just see if I can find any help regarding this. In the meantime though, maybe another community member might have some ideas.

Thanks,

Pascale

I have just been told that the product I purchased from Amazon did not
originate in the UK so repairs are going to cost £170! I am not prepared to
pay that for a repair so have told them just to scrap it. And this after
only 19 months of use! I have had a go at Amazon to no avail, as expected. I
think everyone should be aware when buying electronic products from them
that this may be an issue. I am livid, to say the least.

I have my TV system in a cabinet that was specifically designed to take this
size of sound bar. I would like to replace it but notice Sony do not offer
it as an option anymore. Can anyone recommend a solution as to where I can
purchase a genuine, new version of this sound bar? Or are there any other
similar options with the same dimensions? Thank you in advance.

Hi @brsteve20   Your best option is probably fleaBay.

Hi,

I have exactly the same issue, in fact 3 times (there is another thread on here I started) and Sony don't want to hear anything. So, so disappointed in the sony quality here. Will look elsewhere for the next one (any tips welcomed)

Regarding your question for an alternative, if Sony is not an issue for you, you could try the MT300 , less spec that MT500 but same dimension....

All the best in your search for a replacement, and most likely, goodbye sony

There seems to be a theme here. I bought mine in November 2018. It failed in March 2019. Away under warranty for 6 weeks and came back functioning (sort of) having had its main pcb replaced. It died again last Friday. Completely. No extended warranty apparently despite the previous problems. Repair costs sound as if they are going to be greater than the original purchase price.

I too would appreciate a recommendation for a good quality replacement!!!

Many thanks - more in hopes than anticipation 😞
