The receivers standby modes are all switched off.
The TV's HDMI sync features are switched off as I don't want the receiver auto switching on every time I watch TV. Firmware is up to date on both units.
The issue I'm having is, when the TV is turned on from standby the receiver makes a loud clunk noise. This also happens when turning the receiver on/off.
Can anyone tell me if I have a faulty unit? Or if there's a way to stop this?
I have a double outlet socket for TV and Amp.
Trying to get past the robot on chat is very frustrating 😆
@mpezzer Try the steps here and test again: https://helpguide.sony.net/ha/strtaan10/v1/en/contents/TP1000544677.html?search
Hi and thank you for this,
Looks like there are some HDMI settings I need to change.
Have you been back to the retailer and asked them if it is supposed to make a loud 'clunk' when it is switched on.
Quite often amplifiers and receivers make a noticeable click, clunk or thump as the contacters are activated.
It may be perfectly normal for this model to clunk as it is switched on.
As for your TVs Bravia Sync settings you should have Audio system prioritisation in your Display and Sound> Audio Output settings.
If this is set to the Off position your receiver will not switch on automatically when you switch your TV on.
Hi and thank you for your response.
I Bought the receiver directly from Sony, that is why I'm here looking for answers, as I can't get any technical help from Sony.
I'm aware of clunks and clicks when switching on a receiver. I'm just not used to having a receiver clunk and click when switching on a TV that's connected to the receiver.
As for the Bravia sync, I don't want the receiver to switch on every time I turn on the TV. Watching the news channel in 5.1 does not appeal to me.
Again thank you for your response
Yes I know you do not want the receiver coming on when you switch the TV on that is why I told you about the
Audio System Prioritisation setting on the TV. With this set to OFF your TV will no longer automatically switch the receiver on when you turn your TV on.
If you are aware that receivers make noises when switching on and activating different amplifiers within the unit
then there really is no issue.
Your main issue seemed to be the TV switching the receiver on, and I have told you how you prevent that
by switching Audio System Prioritisation to off.
Your last sentence makes a point about not wanting to have the news in 5.1 if the receiver were on.
There should be a setting on your receiver to have the audio output as it is received via broadcast.
Therefore if something is broadcast in stereo such as the news the receiver will output the audio in stereo,
if the next programme has multi channel audio input the receiver will automatically output the audio in multi channel audio.
I would steer clear of buying direct from Sony. There are plenty of other sellers with better customer service and often better delivery options and perhaps lower prices.
Thanks but this is not the information I'm looking for
So what information are you actually looking for.
First you wanted to know why your receiver was making a loud noise when it was activated.
I discussed that it is perfectly normal for receivers to make a fairly loud noise as it powers up.
And you agreed that you were aware receivers made a loud noise when activated.
So surely your noise complaint has been addressed.
The other point you made was that when you switch the TV on it was also activating the receiver.
Twice I have told you to go into your TVs Sound settings and set the Audio System Prioritisation
to OFF, this will prevent the receiver from switching on when you switch the TV on.
Have you done that.
So again what is it that you are actually looking for?
Hi again, please read the original post I made. I'm not switching the receiver on!
It's when I switch the TV on.
