This will be academic soon, as my centre speaker is due to arrive next week. But I currently have an STR-DN1080 setup with 4 speakers, The amplifier is configured for 4.0 mode.
I know most of the dialogue is from the centre speaker. I did expect though, that if the amplifier is configured in 4.0 mode, and thus not expecting a centre speaker to be present, then it would spread the centre channel equally between the front L&R speakers?
However I find that the suround effects are great but the dialogue is very quiet, implying the amplifier isn't doing that. It is also configured in A.F.D. mode which is supposed to optimise the sound according to the speaker pattern.
Have you tried the built-in auto-calibration in case there's a mismatch in the settings somewhere?
