Sony xperia sp dial pad

When I make a phone call, and need to enter options in a menu, my screen goes blank, unless I turn it completely on its back.

Any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

First of all make sure that you don't have any cover or case covering the proximity sensor (top part of the phone, over the display). If you haven't, I would suggest that you try to boot your phone into safe mode to see if the problem may be related to any 3rd party app that you have installed in your phone:

If the behavior persists in safe mode, I suggest that you have your phone examined by a service center. Please contact your local Xperia support team for more information:

Problem solved. It was as you suggested, the proximity sensor, which I did not know existed. I had recently bought a new phone case, and the flap when using the phone was hanging over where I now know the proximity sensor to be. I held the flap out of the way,  made a call, and found the problem no longer existed.

Many thanks for the help.
