I don't think so, certainly not .mkv. The manual should clarify the formats supported. Easiest way to add support would be to get an entry level Blu-ray player such as the BDP-S370 which would give you divx/mkv this and connected services like BBC iPlayer etc..

I therefore bought a ble-ray player, but most of the MKV files do not play. I'm not sure that Sony's Blu-ray player buy. External HDD not handle.
