as any one else vaio developed a crack by the power button

my vaio  has developed a crack by the power button, its not been dropped or anything like that, so now when i open the lid its pulling and making the disc draw pull apart from the laptop so it looks all out of shape, its only 6 months old, has anyone else had this problem?

YES! I have exactly the same issue, I definitely haven't dropped it and it happened well within 6 months of purchase! What model is yours? Mine's a 'VPCEA1S1E'.

To me this seems suspiciously like a manufacturing fault, but when I contacted Sony about it, they said they'd decide about that and if it's not covered by warranty I'd have to fork out £60 to get my laptop back UNREPAIRED which seems ludicrous!! Have you followed this up since?

mine has developed exactly the same fault, and was told by sony that its not covered under warrenty, so therefore i didnt send mine back either, my model number is vpceb1e0e
