My Sony vio VGN-FS295XP dosen't play DVDs on Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.
By the way the VLC works and i can play dvds, but not on Windows Media Player which I prefer.
Can any one recomend a fix ???

By default, Windows XP Pro does not include a DVD decoder for WMP.
XP MCE does include the decoder and can play DVDs as can Vista HP and above.
You may have to continue with VLC or alternatively purchase a MPEG-2 decoder.

Or, better still, try downloading a free Codec Pack like the K-Lite Codec Pack: -
