I have an RS-322e Desktop, I recently transferred all my data from my old pc to this one by connecting the old HD, when it showed in control panel the drive registered as the memory stick!!! (drive g) everything worked and transfered fine but when the old HD was removed so was the memory stick icon, strangley when i insert a memory stick into the card reader it shows as a compact flash card the data is still availiable but does anyone have a idea how to get the icon back??
thanks
Chris Lewis
Just a case of the Icon cache getting confused in Windows XP. I have this problem in XP where my USB device used to have a drive icon associated with it, and now nothing appears.
Google isn't helping much either...
It's a registry job to restore the icon. There is however this little progette that should do it for you.
Thanks Rob! I had a nasty feeling the registry would be involved in this somehow.
Good old registry, remember to back up before you go ahead and do it.
System restore should keep my bases covered - although I will export the whole C:\Windows directory to several CD-R disks just to be safe.
The registry appears to be similar to Win9X - and I know a lot about that format.:smileynerd:
Use the program in my previous post - it's easier
Hmm I just have a pile of icons and not a clue what to do with them!
I don't collect icons LOL
Oops - sorry, the following should help:
Create (if it does not already exist) the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ DriveIcons\ X\ DefaultIcon
where 'X' is the drive letter of the drive for which you wish to change the drive icon.
Change the key's default value to hold the fully qualified name of the icon file (e.g. 'c:\myicons\cdrive.ico').
If the file contains more than one icon then follow it with a comma and the zero-based index of the icon (e.g. 'c:\myicons\mylib.dll,2').
To see the affect restart windows - although, depending on the version of windows simply refreshing the window might be sufficient.
