FS Vaio Right Hand Catch Snapped Off

Dear All,

I have been reading countless posts on various forums regarding the catch at the top of the screen, that seems to snap on the vaio FS series. This catch is fairly important, not only does it make sure the laptop is kept shut, but it also operates the micro switch that turns the screen off etc.

I have been in contact with Sony who will quite happily repair it, the thing is I can't afford to be without my vaio for a day, let alone 5 - 10 workings days (the timescale I have been given for the repair). Does anyone know if the replacement catches are stronger then the originals, as I can see it simply snapping again in no time at all? Also can you buy these catches? I am more than capable, even qualified to replace this myself.

Many Thanks, for your thoughts feelings etc.

Hi

To my knowledge Sony don't send out any spares so I doubt whether they would stick a couple of latches in the post for you. However, on the basis of 'dont-ask-dont-'get' it might be worth having a word with them. I'm fairly sure they will simply say they don't carry any stocks though.

In the meantime it might be worth having a look at the Vaio Village site because I understand they do send out spares. Click here to go there.

More infomation would be great. I have visited Vaio Village, which seems to be a forum, can't see any area's for spares etc?

VAIO-Link are now repairing this problem, but it means your notebook will be away for 5 working days

If it's within the 14 days return it to the store and get it replaced
