How is Sony at repairing??????

Due to a green line at the very top of my LCD screen I might send in my about 1 month old VGN-S3XP for repairs. However, it is barely used and it is in perfect condition (no scratches...).

What I was whondering is if anyone know how Sony is when it comes to repairing notebooks. In other words, do they fix problems instead of giving new ones? Do they scratch the surface of the computer in any way?
Is the product in the same or better shape when you get it back?

The reason for why I am asking is because I have had some really bad experience with some other companies when the product I then had a problem with and then sent to them came back in a worse condition. Sure it did work... but it had scratches or other deteriations on the looks that wasn't there when it was sent in...

Thanks in advance

They did that to mine, but in all fairness I've never seen anyone else mention that happen. Some people have all the luck!

To be honest, some people have good service, some people have bad. There are perhaps a slightly disproportionate amount of people who find their problem has not been fixed at all (you would be surprised how often!) but as for making it worse.........don't think so.

In the end you really have no choice anyway, so I wouldn't think about it too much. If you're uncomfortable with it, you could try taking it back to the shop and asking for a replacement instead before resorting to support.

well based on my experience with the sony repair centre I think they are quite good and efficient. I had a problem with the keyboard of my A117S
and i must say i was contemplating sending it to them jsut like you until i couldnt take it any longer..(plus my 1yr warranty was gonna expire in about two weeks) so i convinced myself i had nothing to lose.
And believe me i was impressed with their service.. cos i called up the support center on thursday... they organised a dhl pickup for friday (next day) and i got my vaio back on tuesday and it was in perfect condition and all was free :D.

So in a nutshell, i'ld say go for it!

Thank you for your replies.

Well, I doesn't have to turn in the computer for repairs... the green line is joust above the pixel area ^^ (but it is frustrating when watching a movie to have it there though...).

I can unfortunately not turn the computer in for a new one. The store from which I bought it have a 10 day period when that is possible. Moreover, Sony have a 14 day period when it is possible to replace a faulty notebook. Nevertheless, when I find a problem I always try to find a solution before I call the support. This resulted in that the error reporting was made after 14 days (didn't know about the 14 day rule... :slight_frown: ).

So now I have to decide wether to turn the computer in for an error that doesn't seriously affect its performance (how irritating the error now might be) or to learn to live with it. For example the screen has -> 0 <- dead pixels. But a new screen might not be so flawless when it comes to dead pixels.

By the way, how would you have done? Turned it in for repairs or learned to live with the error?

I would get it replaced, you don't want the hassle of having to send it in later if it all goes Pete Tong....

Just out of interest do you have any other problems with your screen? I am using a white background in Windows and it looks grey (even on full brightness). Also my screen has gone dark in the corners. I have the same notebook as you.

The screen is sharp and the colours are truly excellent on mine.
I'm very sorry if your screen is giving you problems aswell.

BTW, as I said before I cannot replace the unit becasue it is to late for that now according to both the store and Sony...

However, I can repair the screen. But then I risk new problems and errors.
