Hi everyone!
I'm hoping someone who's a bit more tech savvy can help me out. I've got a 2013 Sony vaio, model SVF1421X2EB. It's running a bit slow lately so I want to upgrade the RAM. I looked up the spec page and it says I've got: Memory Composition 4 GB (SO-DIMM) x 1, and that I can upgrade it to 8gb.
What it doesn't tell me (as far as I can tell) is how many memory slots I have. Does the x1 mean that they only included 1 stick of RAM or that I only have 1 slot? There's a massive price difference between getting a 4GB stick and an 8gb stick.
If anyone else has experience with this and could let me know, I'd be really appreciative! The spec page is here if you need to see it: https://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/content/cnt-specs/SVF1421X2E/list

Hi Merathenalin and welcome.
If you go to the website of a reputable memory supplier who guarantee compatibility like Crucial, you will see the available RAM Upgrades:-

I believe you have 2x slots but don't take my word for it, it only takes a few minutes to look inside the memory bay before deciding what to do. Like you, I cannot find the exact information so look for yourself.
I think you have 2 slots with a 4GB module in the bottom slot and the top slot empty. You can buy an additional 4GB to get a total of 8GB or you can buy an additional 8GB to get a total of 12GB.

Hi Blencogo,
Thanks for the advice and the diagram! I followed he instructions and opened up the computer as suggested and you are absolutely correct! There's 2 slots! A filled one on the bottom and an empty one on the top! Thanks so much!
