Hello
Do any of you leave your notebooks on 24/7?
Are there any problems with doing so? My notebook gets quite hot so I'm a bit worried that its going to have a short lifespan.
I assume you have a downloading reason for leaving your notebook on all the time otherwise HD's have a 30,000 hour life. Be aware that if you are connected to the internet you run the risk of being hacked and your computer becoming a zombie. Make sure you have a good firewall program like Sygate and Zonealarm AVG but not just Nortons. As for keeping your notebook cool use this CPUTemp and every 3to5 gigs of downloads defragment. Also use a simple screen saver and turn off all unneccessary processes in the task manager (right click the task bar). Better to give it a hour rest everyday but it is up to you because desktops are far more suitable for 24/7 operation as they breathe better.
Rarely do I leave it on 24/7
Then again with BTs new ideas people are going to have to download after midnight!
Pipex man eh Kee-Lo
Yeah, so I guess you know about traffic management?
Yes . . . . They haven't handled it too well IMO.
wht will the laptop be doing 24/7. if using the CPU alot and Hdd alot then i recommend not leaving it on all the time but u could use software to monitor temp and if u think it is too hot then let it cool down.
24/7 - I've only done it a couple of times.
I don't use it during the day when I'm a work, I have it on most evenings and put it on standby overnight and turn it off again in the morning when i go to work.
It is at the weekends I leave it on the most, I tend to put it on standby when not needed or shut it down sometimes just to give it a rest.
