Nvidia driver query

Hi, I have  Vaio, about 3 years old, VPCCW1S1E the Nvidia display driver keeps crashing and I can't find anywhere toupdate the driver. Nvidia site says to delete the driver and reload from their site but I am a bit worried about doing that as the precise model of my laptop isn't listed.

Anyone have any ideas please?

Hi OwlMomma,

Have you tried the updated driver available from the Sony Support site - 8.17.12.5957 released 28/10/2010?

If you already have this driver installed and need a more recent driver then you will need to resort to a modified INF file in combination with the driver from Nvidia. The driver from Nvidia will most likely not install without a modified INF file as the OEM hardware in your machine will not be recognised.

Nvidia use unified drivers that will work with most of their hardware but as the graphics chip in your notebook is an OEM product the hardware ID will not be listed in the standard INF file – hence the need for a modified version.

Have a look at the following links and be sure to read the Quick Start Guide towards the bottom of the page on the second link.

Obviously Sony do not recommend or support this procedure so it is entirely at your own risk as there is always the possibility that there is an underlying hardware problem that is the cause of the issue if you have the most recent Sony released driver installed.
