Hello, we have had a Sony Vaio PCG-K115Z for a couple of months now and it hangs occasionally. Now this weekend I noticed that it especially hangs after a certain amount of IDLE time. So this immediately excludes the typical overheating hypothesis.
I have been experimenting a bit with the power management now. Slowing down the processor sure does not help. I am now doing a test where I turn off power management entirely (in the sense that I set all auto-shutdown settings to 'never').
Anyone else experiencing this or have an idea what is wrong ?
Thanks a lot!

Hi & welcome to CV
Firstly I have the same model. Secondly I have not had this problem and I dont recall many posts with this problem, so my sugestions are purely basic clean up and repair.
1) Does your speedtep work properly, particularly when set to adaptive?
2) What tempertures are you running.
To see both of these I use Mobilemeter which you can download here.
If speedstep is not working properly then use SpeedswitchXP
Then I also advise a general tidy up - use any or combination of the folowing:
Tune Up Utilities
System Cleaner
Registry Mechanic
If this still doesnt help please let us know...
HTH
Check the event log in Control Panel > Administrative Tools for red marks
Thank you both for your very helpful pointers ! I will try them out as soon as I have access to the laptop again.
After my post, I continued the test with all power management off, and low and behold, the system kept on running fine!

If it looks like a power management problem then use SpeedstepXP as this will allow you to use the speedstep and run a whole lot cooler...
