Hi everybody - Can I put a PCMCIA card including a Firewire 800 port on a Vaio PCG-GRT 816S, I have bought on January 2004 ? Is the machine compatible with this high speed port ?
Thanks for your help.
There should be no problem.
They are 3 types of PCMCIA cards. (different size)
They're Type II
Let me know how you get on with that
I bought one for my son’s Dell recently, works a treat!
Have a look here.
Does it make transfer any faster Rich, or does the hardware need to support firewire 800?
If Sony use internationan standards, then it should work.
Thanks Rich for this reply. Your card seems to be Firewire 400 and not 800. Am I right ?
On closer inspection of the picture I think that you are right. I thought that it had one 400 and one 800 port but as my son is away at present I can’t physically check it. As Seb rightly says, there should be no problem unless Sony has departed from international architecture, which I doubt. Windows 2000 and XP support Firewire 800.
I didnt know PCMCIA could support transfer speeds that high!
It support much more. Correct me if I'm wrong. But it's up to 132MegaByte per second. (in DWORD mode).
