screen display in windows XP smaller than monitor wide screen

Hi,
I have a VGN-S1HP. For some reason i can not guess the workable screen area became smaller than the full screen size. I have tried the display/ control panel function/display properties/panel properties. If i change scale image it comes back to full screen but out of focus.
I' m using windows XP.
please if you know how to configure it back to full screen, i would be very gratefull.
thanks in advance,
Fabio.

You need to change your screen resolution to 1280x800. If you can't find this resolution listed in the display properties then download and install the drivers for your computers video card from Vaio-Link

I've got a similar problem: I've got a FS115m and I do have winXP @ 1280x800, the problem is that some full screen games doesen't take it, just 1024x768. An example? Need for Speed 2 doesen't but Midnight Club 2 does.
I don't know if there are newer drivers (latest on nvidia site are 75xx) to be downloaded from sony.
Does anyone have any clues?
I mean: most of my friends with an nvidia card (not OEM as these for our vaios) and 1280x800 don't have such issues.

EDIT: maybe the latest drivers are 77... maybe I'm just confusing

There's a checkbox somewhere in the video settings to expand the screen when the native resolution isn't being used. There is also normally an option in the BIOS that does the same thing.

A similar thing happened to my machine. A half-inch black border appeared one day and no matter how many times I messed about with the resolution and trying various drivers not thing would fix it.

I did fix it in the end though by using the controls on the monitor to stretch it back to its full size.

Job done:smileyhappy:
