Hi, i recently bought a Sony Vaio A417s with docking station. I do alot of video editing etc so needed good performance, etc.
The first problem i encountered was when i tried to connect my vaio notebook to my tv to watch some home movies.
Although i could see what was on my notebook on the TV, which were connected via S-Video and Optical, whenever i tried to play something in Windows Media Player or WinDVD the sound would be present but no picture?? I could see WMP on the tv but the picture of the movie wouldn't appear, it would just stay black??
The next problem i have encountered was when i tried to burn the dvd's and play on my Sony DAV-S500 dvd player. Whatever speed i tried to burn the dvd's my dvd player would say "Disc is dirty". I then tried burning with the same media on my pioneer dvd rw, which burned perfectly and was able to play on my sone dvd player??
This has been quite frustating, i had bought this notebook because i had come to trust the Sony brand, so please dont let me down!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You need to set the TV as the primary display in display properties in the control panel.
hi, thanks for the reply guys, i will try that out and see if it works.
However i am still concerned about the problem regarding the DVD Writer. I have tried more DVD-R's at the slowest speed, all come up with the same error messege "C:13:00 Disc is dirty" on the dvd player. When using the other dvd writer at the same speed and same media, the dvd plays fine without any problems??
Also the dvd's that dont work on the dvd player work on the pc fine??
I would really appreciate if anyone could help me on this
thanks again

does it succesfully burn?.. did you try it on your vaio first before putting it in the dvd player?
Yes, the dvd's appear to burn successfully and work fine when playing back on the vaio, its only when i try to play in my sony dav-s500 dvd player, it says "disc is dirty" and wont play??
I intend on buying more expensive media such as that of Sony's own brand to see if thats the problem.
will get back with results, but if anyone else has any other advice it would be greatly appreciated
thanks
ok, i've been away, spent a little more money on dvd's etc and here's the verdict !!!!!!!!!!
IT DOESN'T WORK !!!
sorry but its becoming very frustrating !!
I bought one Verbatim DVD-R and burned a dvd using the sony dvd-writer and it worked great in the dvd player !!! so i went and bought a 25 pack of the Verbatim DVD-R, however now they dont work again?? The dvd player says "Disc is Dirty"
The dvd's i burn using the sony dvd writer work fine when playing back on the laptop!!
Can anyone else recommend other dvd-r media that works well on the sony dvd writer dw-d56a???
Also, the matter of connecting to the tv, i still cant get it to work??
I connect the laptop to the docking station and then to the tv. When this is connected, whatever appears on the laptop appears on the tv screen, i think Great !!! but when i open Win DVD or Windows Media Player and watch a movie etc on that , i can see the movie on the laptop screen but on the TV it just goes black?? I can still see the WMP window on the tv, but there is just a black screen where the movie should be??
I am really lost, and very frustrated with this !!!
I didn't buy a Sony laptop to go through this hassle !!!!!
If someone can please help me with any of these problems it would be much appreciated !!!
thanks
If it's not working then send it in to Sony for repairs
