Trackpoint on the Sony Vaio Duo

Does anyone know how to enable the trackpoint on the Sony Vaio Duo 11?

I bought a new one over the weekend, and everything is greate except that this optical track nub does not seem to work. I can't see any settings anywhere that will enable it, nor what could be wrong with it.

Neither this, nor the three mouse buttons work.

I can control the pointer using the pen, or my finger, but it is annoying notto have this piece of functionality.

Any advice would be gratefully received.
