Im after some help plz!
I widh to upgrade the RAM on my VGC-V2M from 512kb to a gig, i have read the sony tutorial page on installing the new memory module to complete the upgrade.
However, they dont specify which memory modules are compatible and which i will need to go and buy. If anyone could please post where i might find this information it would be very helpful
Cheers
Hi,
Please don't buy Sony RAM.
Before you buy any RAM, please check how much RAM-modules are in your VAIO. (1 x 512MB or 2 x 256MB). Because you have only 2 Memory slots in your VAIO.
RAM specification :
you need, DDR PC3200 (DDR400), unbuffered, non-ecc, dimm (184 pin)
check http://www.crucial.com for RAM upgrades.

Thanks alot, really useful site
It's the best site for RAM upgrades which I have seen.:smileywink:
Just had a nasty surprise on my 217M. I read everywhere that it had a free memory slot. So i ordered my second 512mb module to upgrade to 1gig.
To my horror Sony have put 2 x 256mb modules in, im gutted, i can only upgrade to 768mb unless i now go and buy a second 512mb module. Why on earth do they put 2 x 256mb modules in and not just a single 512mb. It must be cheaper to have a single module rather than 2 seperate ones.
Does anyone have an idea why they do this ?
Yours frustrated Mark
Awwwe, you must look before what you need.:smileysad:
I think it's cheaper to buy 2x256 instead of 1x512. Maybe that's the reason why they do that.
Just take the 256MB out and use the 2 512MB sticks, keep it as spare.
No it came supplied with a 256 module in each slot
So i now have 1 x 512 and 2 x 256
best i can do is 768mb
Which isn't bad
