im not agree with you about Linux virus is FREE
its not .. linux have virus but not to much like windows
over 80% ppl in the world use windows .. thats why one programmer want code a virus ... he not waste time for under 15% ppl in the world

i dont believe linux security is better than windows ..

thanks but this is totally off-topic.
I don't think your post can help anyone with sonypi drivers but throw a flame on this board.

I agree, it's sad that Sony don't want to support linux, they could write some cool media centre OSes for the VAIO quite nicely

The reason there are no known successful viruses for Linux is because the general user doesn't have permission to overwrite the operating system files whereas on windows the general user can overwrite any file on the harddrive.

OMG, must reply: FAT file system has no user permissions at all, hence windows, as it was built on it.
NTFS has got user permissions (as long as case sensitivity file names), but windows is the same as the previous...
simple as that.

pls, stay on topic  I'm really interested if anyone solves this FN keys issue

Try sony_acpi, they talk about it here.

On my s4m/s it doesn't work, but on fs115 should. I've wrote the developer but no answer till now.

I want my brightness down!

i read your post for vaio s4 on gentoo forums (if you are the same person-which i believe so) trying to find info on s4hp (even thought i use ubuntu)

it was helpfull

i also cant get acpi and fn_keys to work and i need to test some stuff
(wireless,bluetooth, memory stick etc)

Now fnkey works fine under linux. Even better than in windows, since you can use it also with keys other thank the F's

You'll find how to make it working here http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-361872.html. It is gentoo related, but it's quite easy to make it working also on other distributions.
