Hi
I have been given a faulty Viao VGN-AW11S/B. The original problem was a broken power socket which was fixed by an engineer who damaged the wireless switch in the process. The laptop has worked ok since with a usb wireless adaptor rather than on board wireless.
The power socket has now broken again. I have repaaired that and it works ok but on investigation there is nothing behind the wireless switch. There are no connections and it doesn't operate anything. The on board wireless reports working ok in device manager but won't display any networks to connect to.
Does anyone know if it is possible to override the switch with a software utility or if there are any connections on the motherboard that can bve used to make the switch appear to be permanently on
Thanks
Hi keef1957,
If I understand correctly the actuating mechanism behind the sliding switch is missing. This connects to the motherboard via a flexible flat cable (FFC) and thus there are no individual cables that you could couple to achieve ‘always on’. It is possible that an electronics engineer could modify the motherboard (risky) or fit a modified FFC connector to the motherboard.
Your best bet it to try and source the actuating mechanism, but from where is the problem. One of Sony service partners may be able to help but as far as I am aware they will not ‘supply only’ parts.

Thanks Rich,
Looks like i'm living with the usb wireless adaptor. Not a big problem in reality. Just annoying as it was a 'professional' that broke it
