VGN-T2XP hard disk capacity

Hello.
I bought a Vaio VGN-T2XP that is supposed to have an hard disk of 60GB, but when I look at the two sections of the partition I read that c:\ has a total capacity of 27,9GB and d:\ has 20,9GB.
Anyone can suggest me where are the remaning 11GB and how can I use them?

Thanks a lot.

I had the same thought about a week ago when I bought one!

If you look through the documentation it tells you that the missing drive space is used to store the recovery data - so that if your Windows fails etc, you can restore your whole hard disk.

You'll probably get a balloon popping up everytime you start Windows asking you to create backup disks. Do this - some people advise making a couple of copies. Once you've done this you can run through it again and actually erase the recovery partition if you require. I'm not 100% sure how to do it as my T2XP is away getting the hard disk replaced - but I will work it out when I get it back!

Hope this helps

Welcome to the forum giulicri.

It is possible to remove this with the Vaio Recovery Tools once you have made your recovery disks (consider two or three sets to be safe) but unless you are critically short of space I don¿t recommend it. Recovery disks have been known to fail, and have been lost and the only solution then, without a recovery partition, is to buy a new set of disks from Sony at a cost of approx. £50.
