Nobody from Sony cares about this old issue anymore, just relax and take it as it is.
It will never be solved, the last updates, including 7.0 did everything BUT this.
That's the sad truth, they don't even bother to tell us what's going on and if there will be a fix sooner or later. I also noticed that if you turn the screen off and on the rotation is working again. In the service test menu the accelerometer is working fine when the issue occurs, so it is definitely a software issue.
Hi @Georgetobia,
Welcome to the community.
There is now a software update that remedies this - software build number 35.0.A.1.297.
Unfortunately we are unable to confirm specific date for any particular firmware release due to the nature of the approval process as the updates are customised by multiple parties before being released.

Hello Cameron, we are talking about X performance here, the latest software is 39.2.A.0.417 and unfortunately the problem still exists.
Best regards
Makis

@CameronT
The guys above and 2 friends of mine have the same problem, some Xperia XZ owners with the same firmware too, it's a software problem for sure because the accelerometer is working (in the service menu) but the apps won't listen to it, if you turn off and then on the screen rotation it works again. Please just kindly transfer this issue to the developers so they can do their research to figure out what is causing the problem.
Thank you
