Lower battery life after update to 34.2.A.0.292

Hello,

after above mentioned update my battery life decreased for about 80 %. And it says that most of the battery is used for Android system. Before that (first update on Nougat) I was able to get two days without charging, now it is on 15 % by 8 pm after night charge. Anyone having similar experience?

@andro43

Hmm. No, something must be wrong in your phone. Probably an app eating up the battery. My battery life isn't excellent, it has never been, but with the last update it seem it did improve a bit. I'd suggest to install GSam Battery Monitor. The good news is that it doesn't need root, but you have to follow the instruction to grant the permissions to it via "adb" using the computer.

Once installed and enabled you can check with it if any app is misbehaving. It's a very neat app, quite complete for this purpose.

Yes! I certainly am having a similar experience, and I hadn't really thought too much about the individual updates but for me it seems to have been since around the time I installed Nougat 7.0.

When I first got this phone (just 3 months ago bear in mind) I could easily get 2 and a half, even 3 days out of it. I was amazed by the battery life, and I know that batteries deteriorate over time, but within 2-3 months?! Surely not. Anyway, I now notice that I've gone from getting 2-3 days, to much less than 1! For instance, I took my phone off full charge (100%) at 8AM this morning. It is now not even 11AM and I am down to 75% and I have barely done anything on the phone. I now have to charge my battery every night, which I am not happy about, especially as the so-called Battery Care feature is useless and doesn't work either!

This phone is fast becoming a massive disappointment to me - when I first got it and it was on Marshmallow 6.0, I loved everything about it, but true to Sony's usual form, they insist on messing up their flagship phones with terrible software updates.

Like you Andro43, I'd also love to hear a solution to this battery issue - I have checked in Android battery settings and can't see anything obvious eating the battery.

I suggest, as first step, to clean the cache every time before plug the phone to charge. I also noticed a little decrease of battery life but in this way I can reach 2 full days with one charge with less-moderate use.

Today Phone Arena site also reported about this tip to improve the battery life. Smart Cleaner service is all without "smart"; it don't give notifications, it is not personalizable to what clean and the frequency and someone found it very very useless.

Let us know if the clean of the cache helps you.

Hi, I have the same Problem. According to w-support the accu is ok, but i lose 90% Batterie in 9h. What i don't understand is that standby is the app with the highest battery consumption with 3%. In total 7% is used by standby, Display and so on. But where Arena the remaining 83%? Maybe some hidden app is consuming so much Power?

Hi BrO, I think that the only way remained is to perform a software repair. More, as you can see, nobody from Sony support, unfortunately, give you an answer or suggestion. I think they are in the darkness about your devices and Android N and so, they can't give adeguate support. However, as written over, I suggest you a software repair after a backup and configure the device as "new" when asked. Then let see if the issue persist.

Hi, I tried already several times to set the software back, but didn't help.
But maybe I found the reason today. This morning I switched off the WiFi and suddenly my battery unloads much slower. Only 40% in 16hrs. Still not the same like before, but much better. Maybe one of you can confirm this?

Hi @Bro,

Reading your report I have two suggestions for you.

First, in the options of Wi-Fi section, let control if you have enabled the "preferred network" and "continuying scanning" options.

Second, in the locations section, under 3 dots, let control if the two voices are disabled.

I hope these tips can help you, really!

@Br0 although the wifi may be responsible it can still be software related and I believe also that it's related to an app you are using that probably is draining your battery, maybe an app not optimized for Nougat or maybe an app that keep the wifi stack active.

My opinion is that you should try to perform another software repair, not factory reset. Once done, do not restore your apps but use it for a code of days totally stock. Of course you can add your Google accounts and using regular apps such as Gmail, Chrome and Facebook..

After two days or so, if the battery life is satisfying try installing other apps and check if life decrease. If it does the you can start to selectively uninstal apps that are possibly affecting the battery life.

If the battery life doesn't improve now you may think it's an hardware issue.

To me the X compact battery life is stellar and believe me I use multiple Google accounts, and lot of apps plus I have a smartwatch connected 24h/7 via Bluetooth.

To me this does seem like an issue with the latest update. Phone idle used 47% of my battery.
