Xperia Compact X USB driver corrupt

Hi, need some help in resolving a corrupt USB driver for the Xperia Compact X. I was transferring some pictures from my phone to my laptop (Windows 10) and the transfer stopped in between with an error message (don't remember the error now). After that the laptop failes to recognise my phone and there is an unknown device in the Device Manager. Downloaded the Xperia X Compact driver from the developer website and installed it but it returned a Code 10 error and now there is a yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager next to the Sony driver. Please help in resolving it. I have rebooted my phone and laptop, still no go.

Hi @SudeepBiswas, welcome to the community.

I am sorry to hear about this. Try installing Xperia Companion, it should contain all the necessary drivers .

I downloaded the software but dont see any option for driver. The phone's software is updated though. There is an option for software repair...shall I try that?

@SudeepBiswas,

Xperia Companion includes everything when you install it, so you don't have to worry about the driver.

A Software Repair will reinstall the firmware of your phone so you don't need to do it unless you're experiencing a software fault with the phone.

Installing the Xperia Companion did not fix it. The phone shows up as unknown device in Device Manager and even after installing the drivers manually, it shows up as a yellow exclamation mark.

Same problem, installing Xperia Companion didn't fixed it.

This may be an issue with Windows rather than Xperia, try this:

If you have multiple USB ports try a different one as this will trigger the system to reinstall drivers. If this isnt helping try to uninstal entirely the software suite and reinstall, if this isn't helping either you could try to go in the device manager and from there uninstal the drivers, disconnect your phone, reboot your computer then reconnect it.

Is it working now?

Unfortunatly i've already tried everything you wrote. Anyway the problem is the PC cause the phone is recognized by other PCs

Also arrived to me just after the last windows update I install. To fix it, I

1/ plug my xperia

2/ uninstall the driver

3/ unplug then plug it again.

@Crazy_gump that's absolutely correct, problem is that not all Windows computers are working properly aftert that. There is something wrong in Windows and the era of Plug and Pray its again in vogue rather than Plug and Play Slightly_frowning_Face
