No signal, model G3121

Hi,

Please can someone help. My phone doesn't appear to be able to connect to a mobile network. I just get 'no service' and no signal bars. I can connect to WiFi fine, I just can't make or receive calls.

I have got a new sim with a new network as I thought that was the problem. I've also tested the new sim in another phone to confirm that it works.

I've tried a factory reset but nothing works.

I've read in another thread about using a different sim slot but I think my phone only has one?

Any ideas, my phone was only 360 days old when it stopped working. Do I need a new one already!?

Thanks

Tom

Hi @Tom80, welcome to our forum and I'm sorry to hear about this. Slightly_frowning_Face

You are correct, the version of the Xperia XA1 that you have is the single SIM version and does not have two SIM slots, only one.

Do you have a PIN code set for your SIM card and if you do, are you asked to type this in after restarting or starting up the device? This will let us know if the SIM card is detected or not.

If the SIM card is detected, go to Settings > Network and Internet > Mobile network > Network operators > Search networks and see if you are able to find any networks. The network your operator is using will be highlighted with a little house icon > tap on it and it should register on the network.

Let me know if that helps!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I have a PIN code set, when I put the SIM into a different phone it worked straight away.

Interestingly I was in the car earlier and I noticed that I was able to briefly register on the Vodafone network, I even had a 4G connection, however I still couldn't make a voice call. I know that Vodafone normally works fine in our area as my wife is with them and it's the reason I swapped, so I wonder if perhaps the signal cable or something like that is broken in my phone.

So I can't say for sure that the SIM is detected, but I think so as otherwise I don't think the phone would even boot up.

If I go to Settings > Network and internet > Mobile network > Network operators > Search networks it does show up the networks as you say, however when I try and select one it says "Registering on vodafone uk", then "Could not connect to networks now, please try again later"...

I've tried again several times over the past 24 hours to no avail unfortunately...

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

hello, was your phone originally bought from a different network?

I've been using it for the past year on 3mobile, however when these signal problems started I figured it was the network, so switched to Vodafone, but unfortunately it still doesn't work, so I guess it's the phone...

Hi again @Tom80 and thank you for getting back with a very detailed report!

Since the device finds the networks, the antenna works at least, other wise it would just be blank when you search, or a search would not start at all.

You mention that your wife has the same operator, would it be possible for you to test her SIM card in your device? I can see that have already tried your current SIM card in a different device, but try her SIM card in your device and see if there is any change when trying to register on the network.

If it still doesn't work and so we can rule out that the software is the cause of this, try performing a software repair using Xperia Companion, but remember to backup your data beforehand as it will be deleted during the repair.

Keep us posted on how it goes!

Hi Jonas,

I'm having the same problem with my XA1.

Removed SIM card it works fine in other phones.

Installed another SIM card. Nothing. All SIM cards are on O2.

Have manually searched for networks, selected (correct) network from the list available sit here for a minute with a spinning circle and "Registering on O2-UK..." message comes back "Could not connect to network now. Please try again later."

All updates have been installed.
Android 8.0.0
Xperia System Update 48.1.A.2.112

Not impressed with this on a 13 month old phone...

Hi @PeteMon, sorry to hear about this. Slightly_frowning_Face

Based on what you already tried on your own, there are two things left to do and one of them you can do on our own (software repair), if you have a computer available.

The software repair will reinstall the software in the device and in the same process delete all data stored on the device, so backing up your data with the same program (Xperia Companion) is recommended.

If you still aren't able to get a network connection, the device will need to be examined at an authorized service centre by a trained technician and your Local support team will assist you further with this and answer any questions you may have regarding warranty, service routines and consumer laws.

I understand it's not very fun to have this happen after 13 months, but as far as I know, O2 is an operator in the UK and in the UK we offer a 24 month warranty for our Xperia devices.

Let me know how it goes! Slightly_smiling_Face
