Can I install an APK file from SD card in Lollipop?

Hi everyone. I want to know if I can install an app from my SD card to the phone in Lollipop. In other words if I recieve or have an APK on my SD card , can I install it on my phone if I'm using Lollipop? On KIT KAT I can install any APK file from the SD card, but can I do this on Lollipop? Please I need an exact answer to this question . ie. Can I do it? YES OR NO. Thanks a lot.

Yes you can - I'm able to do it via my file manager app

Thank you Thommo. One other question . If the app which I want to install is not in the google play store, can it be installed in this case?

At the end it is up to you.

You'll need to allow 3-rd party apps in settings > security, or just go where xperia will suggest after clicking .apk file.

1) Read about app and be sure it's harmless and tested by users or someone you know.
2) If possible search for same app in google store,
3) Mind the device might get unstable if app is not google certified - risk is yours.
4)Turn back security settings after setup to factory default (only play store apps).
