Do not use under water

When did Sony change their statement on using Xperia pruducts under water? They used to say up to 1.5m in depth for a few minutes, now it clearly states do not use under water.

Also noticed this is now the advice for previous products that used to say it was OK to use under water, not just the latest Z5.

Sony products are no longer water proof (what I thought anyway). Watch out!

I'm pretty sure you took awesome photos BUT chlorinated water and salt water will damage the seals, and of course the usb charging port, you should refrain from doing that, or buy a waterproof case or bag. If your phone it's water damaged bc of what you described above it's unlikely that warranty will cover it.

I think I have to clarify a bit.

My phone is xperia z5 compact not is just z5. But there is no much difference I think.

I asked our local office they refused to get my phone back. And I was forward to service center by them.

They didn't reply on my question about ip 68.they just say tipical phrases like: the phone has ip68 standart and don't immerse the phone in the water.

tommorow I gonna go to service.let's see  what they will say.

I want to write a claim letter for sony company. Anyone of you know any adress for that?

My Z5 Premium Dual have an error after taking picture under water.

It restarting smart connect apps all the time.

For way out, I turn off smart connect.

FYI, I was setting Radio automatically on when I plugging the headphones.

Now even the headphones already insert, the smartconnect restarting automatically.

true not to taking picture under water.

Thank You for your suggestion.

But before I ran with your suggestion,

I have already disable the app and clear the data.

Then I activated again.

I have tried both in safe mode and normal mode, when I activated smart connect app again the problem didn't appeared.

Also didn't appeared when I plug in the head phones.

But seems I don't want to try again taking photo under water.:smileyworried:

Hi Fanmadrid,

Welcome to the community,

Sorry to hear about this issue, unfortunately we are unable to answer this question only a service agent can after inspection, you can however get the device to a service agent and have a vacuum test performed, they will be able to clarify if this was some form of defect.

* The Xperia Z5 is waterproof and protected against dust, so don’t worry if you get caught in the rain or want to wash off dirt under a tap, but remember: all ports and attached covers should be firmly closed. You should not put the device completely underwater or expose it to seawater, salt water, chlorinated water or liquids such as drinks. Abuse and improper use of device will invalidate warranty. The device has Ingress Protection rating IP65/68. For more info see http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/dm/waterproof/. Note the Xperia™ has a capless USB port to connect and charge. The USB port needs to be completely dry before charging.

Hi everyone. I hope to buy a Z5 or Z6 as my next phone. My first Z3 died because of condensation(it was replaced under warranty) my second one still works and I use it in fresh and chlorinated water(it's still working, I just make sure to dry it off straight after and remove the case before taking it under). I want to take the Z5/Z6 underwater, but i don't like the marketing change either.

Hi There Xperia Help people,

Instead of a "Copy & Paste" quote from your current instructions, can you tell me how you can give something a rating of IP68 and then stae the device should not be submerged. And, as for saying not to "use" it underwater, can you explain this marketing material clearly playing off this as a key feature.

So not only are you saying it's ok to use underwater, but you're actively selling the phone on that basis. So on that basis, mine is not working following your previously specified usage. So i'm assuming it'll be no problem getting a replacement? Care to explain your way out of that one?Xperia Z1 underwater usage1.jpg
