Hello,
i hope anybody can help me. I bought my Z5 compact last week and now i have problems with the microphone. When somebody call me, the other person cant hear me or hear me very feeble. It is like from a far distance speaking. When I turn to speaker, then the other person can hear me perfectly. I dont know what to do.
To start in Safe mode doesnt solve the problem. I dont have the possibility to turning off the microphone noise suppression.
What can I do? Who can help me?
My Android-Version is 5.1.1 .
Thanks for your help.

Hi Green15,
Welcome to the community,
Are you using a case on the device by chance? And has this issue been apparent from the start?
Hi Jake,
I am using the official case of Sony. SCR44. This cant be the problem. Also when I use it without case, the microphone doesnt work correct.
Yes, it is from the start. But you have to know, I updated it immediately to the newest android version.

You could attempt a software repair on the device. This would help rule out hardware/software.
Follow the instructions in the link below.
Make sure to backup your data with PC Companion also.
I have exactly the same problem, very low volume from handset and perfect sound from speaker phone setting.
I did the safe mode startup without any improvement, I also did the software repair using the Sony Companion software, also with no improvement.
What is interesting as noted above is that the problem is only when in handset mode, speaker mode is fine.
Please help, I cant use my new phone like this and need to (unwillingly) go back to my Samsung handset
Got my problem solved. Google now!!!
Microphone issues on brand new Xperia Z5 Compact self.SonyXperia

Just got my Xperia Z5 Compact yesterday, and it's great - except it fails at the most basic element of a phone - making and recieving calls.
No one can hear me when I make calls.
I did a bunch of tests, making calls, receiving calls, Facebook call, Skype call - and the other party did actually hear me ONCE when I made a Facebook call, but it didn't work with subsequent attempts.
Had a search around and it seems this has happened to people on other Z-model xperias, however it is rare, and there doesn't seem to be an obvious solution other than disabling Google Now, which I'd rather not have to do.
I also did a diagnostic test on the microphone, which failed 5 out of 5 times.
Now I would just take the phone back, but the fact it worked ONCE makes me think its a weird software issue - my phone installed two updates after I got it and also installed all the apps I had on my ancient HTC One S, so I have other things to try, but I wonder if anyone has any suggestions to resolve this?
Shall update this list as I try new things:
Thing's I've tried:
Things I'm still to try:
- Speakerphone calls
- Disabling Google Now
- Hard reset
It appears nothing I can try helps. Unless anyone knows of anything else I can try, I guess my only option is to return the phone. Good thing I decided to buy it instore rather than online!
Thank you for the information. Will definately try it out .
I am having the same problem! sent it for repair at Sony authorised service centre in Petaling Jaya. Technician said the phone works fine now. when I tested it, the problem is still there.
It is now lousy Sony technicians or lousy Sony products!
Waiting for them to call for a second time collection and see how it goes.
I have been loyal to Sony products since 1998, and this time the Z5 Compact is such a dissappointment. This is a basic problem
which should have not occur in the first place. MICROPHONE!
It is a BIG dissappointment because I have bought iPhone 6S and I let it go as I saw Z5 Compact which I believe in Sony so much. Lousy lousy lousy, I hate Sony mobile phones!!! Basic features.
Dear sony,
its been months, and there is no fix to the issue with the microphone wiht calls only working at loundpeaker mode.
the basic phone feature is unusable.
i repaired the software, which wiped my phone, using PCC.
nothing helps,
CAN ANYONE ACTUALLY SORT THIS OUT!!!!!!!!!!

You don't have to disable Google Now, just disable the "OK Google on any screen" setting. It's stupid and I wish Sony would have fixed this by now.

Any idea how to do that?

It's in the Voice settings in the Google Now app.
