Problem with Xperia Z1 Compact after software update

Hi, I just got my Z1 Compact today and did the required android update via my computer. After the installation the phone's screen is black with some symbols in the right up corner. I cannot do anything besides turning it off/restarting/taking a screenshot and opening the camera both by pressing the manual buttons. Anything else is disabled.

"The initial boot doesn't respond" is an error message I get sometimes (translated from another language so I can't be sure how it is verbatim in English). The PC companion says it's unable to connect to the phone. And there is a white light blinking from time to time on top of the phone. I do not have a sim card in it, yet.

What do I do?

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

Connect the phone to a wall charger > press and hold power & volume up for 10 seconds > let it charge for 2-3 hours > try again with PCC

PC Companion (PCC)

Bridge (for Mac)

@uliwooly and @Thommo, thanks for replying so quickly! I did what you both suggested and the phone is now working with the updated software and did also somehow maintain the apps and some of the information I already gave it before.
