Why does the Xperia Z3 Compact save pics that i open from sms-messages? Can i deactivate this?

When i click on a received picture in a sms-message on an iphone i get a bigger version of that pic, but it doesn't save the picture to the photo album. But that's just what happens on the Xperia Z3 Compact. Can I deactivate this?

Also, can I deactivate the trasbin for pictures in photos?

If you download the pictures there will be shown on the Album app, are you using a third party messaging app?

No i'm using messaging app which I think is the default one, I've attached a pic of the app icon. So I want to open the attached pic (an mms I guess) and watch in the Album app but not save it to the Album app.

open the messaging app > menu > settings > MMS Settings > MMS auto download. your pictures will be downloaded either auto downloaded or manually downloaded, I can't think a way around it.

I think the setting that you're referring to just determines whether the phone automatically downloads the pics from the sms server to show in the messaging app. I'm talking about when i click the picture IN the messaging app. When i longpress on the picture it actually gives me a choice of "view picture" or "save picture". So if I click "view picture", in my mind that should open a larger verison of the pic and then when I close the picture it shouldn't have been saved to the Album app. Right? Something is very wrong here...

Could you upload the picture to box or dropbox as I can't see the picture until it's approved

What if you try Hangouts or even better Google Messenger

As for the messaging app, it is the preloaded app, but it seems to be set to either 

1. manually download the pictures but it will show up 

or 

2. auto download the pictures.
