Xperia Z headphone jack won't detect headphone

I was listening to music and then after a while I realized the music wasn't coming from my earphones anymore but from the phone's speakers, even when the earphones were plugged in. I tried plugging them in again several times, still won't work. Is it a software update issue, or a hardware issue? My earphones work fine on my laptop, so i don't think it's an issue with my earphones.

Amazing. Was a bit sceptical about downloading the app as most solutions proposed in forums hardly work but i must say this works. Had to restart my phone twice for the app to detect my headphones though . Thanks so much mate saved me some bucks as i had almost given up with the phone

I had the same problem using the very headphones that came with the phone, i tried all the trouble shooting also. Eventually i solved the problem,, embarrassingly it turns out there is an 'off' toggle on the headphones. So if anyone is as slack as me you might want to check that lol

Ok, thanks for the guide! but the question is now how to do it to also play the music in the phone's speakers when needed????? because now only earphones work no matter what I select in the app...

Did you manage to get a solution for this? I still have this problem either I have my earphones working or just the speakers. Not both of them

Thanks so much for this advice. In order to find a needle in the stack, you suggested to move the stack. The problem is that if the system repair doesn't help, there's too much hustle for nothing. Even with the backup - all the settings, wifi and other passwords, app settings, the whole setup of the phone is gone. So now I'm not just without the music - I also need to set everything up again. A word "frustration" naturally comes to mind.
