Xperia Z headphone jack won't detect headphone

I was listening to music and then after a while I realized the music wasn't coming from my earphones anymore but from the phone's speakers, even when the earphones were plugged in. I tried plugging them in again several times, still won't work. Is it a software update issue, or a hardware issue? My earphones work fine on my laptop, so i don't think it's an issue with my earphones.

It's always good to try another pair of headphone/headset to your phone just to exclude problems related to your headphone

Otherwise, I suggest that you perform a software repair via Update Service:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/

Download and install SUS on a PC, follow the instructions that appear.

If the problem persist, you should contact your local support team to get information about how you should proceed in this case:

Exactly same problem.

I have just done a full repair (wipe data, reinstall everything) headphone jack still not working.

The problem with my ON/OFF button not working was solved by this repair process.

Judging from other comments on the forum, SONY customer service won't respond and help with this problem.

This tablet does not seem fit for purpose and will be going back to John Lewis for a refund at the weekend under UK Sales and Goods Act.

Hello, gentlemen!
I had issue with jack plug in\out recognizing. And found 100% fix it on my XperiaSP. No dust-ckeaning, no jack **bleep**. Winking_Face

Here is it:
1) Download appliction SmartConnect from Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.extras.liveware
2) In SmartConnect enable pre-set modes: "Music at house" for Headphones device and "Music on the road" for Headset.
Names may differ, because my phone has non-English locale, but I hope you will be able to got it.

Some thoughts:
I suppose that I've found a root cause. It was everything fine with original Sony headset which was in the box with my new cellphone.
An issue occured when I bought and used 1st time headphones (made by Sony too, BTW!). Somewhere I've read that number of contacts can affect.
There are 4 points of contact on headset jack and only 3 on any headphones jack. Gosh, I was thinking of moneyback, but now it works.
2 days of b..hurt and heavy lurking... Disrespect to vendor for that.

Brilliant thank you. Its ironic that sony calls this a Smart Connect app. All other devices can recognise when a headphone is plugged in and not play through the phone. Not smary Sony, this amongst other glitches with my Xperia has confirmed that Sony should not make phones. Stick to TVs

Hi, I am not able to use the phone in the car. I thought because it is trying to force audio through Bluetooth, but was failing as the car only does phone and not music streaming. This is not tested but makes sense as the only headphones that work are the included Song's which are technically a headset. Must say though, the smart keys app which you download through the connect app is wonderful. It really makes that one button on the headset immensely useful. Thanks for your post.

This happened to me when I was gyming and i left my phone on the floor with my earphones plugged in. When I finished with the machine I accidentially stepped on my phone with the earphone jack facing towards the floor, making the phone levated on the top and only being supported by the earphone jack piece. I hope you get the picture. Therefore, I thought I screwed up the earphone jack by bending it or something. Later on I found it was actually just a software problem by trying my earphones on my friends phone and his earphones on my phone. Both worked so it had to be a software problem.

After looking at some forums, I tried clearing SmartConnect data and then proceeded onto downloading Soundabout. In the beginning, just simply downloading the app didn't work for me. I had to go into the settings >Media audio. Then choose Wired Headset (with Mic) if your earphone has a mic, if not try selecting just Wired Headset. I've never tried but if one doesn't work, try the other. After selecting, it then worked and it still worked eventhough i uninstalled Soundabout afterwards. Hope this helps someone!! I bought Ink'd 2 Black w/Mic and it worked only for one time then my device doesn't detect it when I plug it in!

Here what I did to get it working again:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > ALL > Smart Connect. and clear it's data.
  2. Go to Play Store and install SoundAbout.
  3. Open SoundAbout app and go to Media Audio and select your headset type in my case I selected [Wired Headset (with Mic)]
  4. Plug-in your headset and the device should detect it now! :smileysmileywink:

Note:

After getting your headset working you can go ahead and uninstall SoundAbout :smileysmileythumbsup:
