Xperia z5 won't turn on, flashing red LED when plugged

My phone finished charging at like 8am when I woke up, and I put it next to me and went back to sleep. When I woke up again, I tried to unlock the phone and nothing happened so I plugged it in, and it only blinks red LED.

I've already tried power button + volume up/down combination, didn't do anything.

Anyone's got an idea what to do in this situation?

@andydino in this case I recommend that you get in touch with your Local support team in order to be assisted in sending the device into service.

I do not have any information regarding your specifc market and the service routines there unfortunately. I recommend that you get in touch with your Local support, they will have more details! Slightly_smiling_Face

I have had the same issue too, It happened after I used my Xperia Z5 Compact on a rainy day (calling and camera, with camera button since the wet screen did not allow to use precisely)

Could not charge at first then it turned off after the battery was empty. And it never charged again just the red LED and the Sony logo flashing on for a very short time.

No chance to do any software repair or anything else.

Contacted my local Sony Support (Germany) now I got the answer.

It would be uneconomic to repair and they offered me to replace the device for about 340 EUR. Or to recycle it for free.

Guys I am really disappointed by Sony and Sony Support. The device is certified with IP68 and then it breaks after using in rain.

Could anyone official here please contact the german support and ask wether it is really no warranty?

I was always very happy with my Sony Smartphone (Z1 Compact, Z3+, Z5 Compact) but this leaves a really bad taste on me.

I am really sorry to hear that @SonyBoyZ5. Slightly_frowning_Face

Since this is a Global user based Support forum, I unfortunately can't assist you with a local case such as this. Service routines, consumer laws, local warranties and other factors vary depending on market, which is why it is best to bring this up with your Local support.

The problem I had when contacting my local Sony support (USA in my case) is that they identify the build of the phone (Australia in my case) from the IMEI code. Then they tell you to contact the support center for that build. They in turn tell you to contact the local support.... It seems they always refer you to someone else. In the end I gave up. I got a local phone business to flash the ROM (I think that's what they said) and it's fixed 90% of the problems. I'd like to have Sony resolve the other 10%, which I'm sure are software and can be fixed remotely, but they just say return it to the vendor without even listening to the problem. Very, very disappointing service.

Hi @Chattel_G,

I'm sorry to hear that, but at the same time I understand that the US team could not assist you with a device from Australia. This is because devices vary depending on market (features, software and in some cases hardware),  and warranties are not global but meant for the specific market your device is purchased in and meant for. In addition, support teams can't assist you with a modified device (hard- or software). I am however sorry to hear about your device and hope you'll be able to restore the behaviour.

So why did Australia tell me to contact local support? And there was nothing modified about my device at the time. I had to resort to a third party to flash the device in my frustration with Sony if that's what you mean by modifying my phone.
