Slightly disappointed that it has no Qi capabilities. This would have been the icing on the cake.
This is the main feature that is missing for me. Been using wireless charging almost exclusively to charge my smart phone and I would have to make some major changes to get this phone.
For some reason they always forget one or two little details to make their phones truly competitive with the flagships of the competition. Sony dropped this useful feature since the XZ3, which is a shame. Samsung S10 has it.
Seems like a lazy move on their part.
With such a long phone I can deal without the 3.5mm headphone jack, but, no wireless charging ? seems a bit odd, not a deal breaker but it is a flagship.
Then again, it is the first of a new Xperia family, just like the Xperia XZ and the XZ2, when Qi wireless charging was introduced, we'll have to wait and see.
I actually didn't believe it when I heard no QI charging, I mean it is what it is, but I use that feature daily.
Has it been confirmed anywhere aside from spec sheet?
Umm, in GSMarena specs for the Xperia 1, it says it has "Qi wireless charging" is a typo.
In this interview, they say Sony took out the Qi to be slimmer.
I actually don't care how thick or heavy the phone is. It needs to have everything and the kitchen sink. It's always a bummer to have features removed from its predecessors.
Samsung's S10 is even slimmer and supports wireless charging.
Sony, I won't buy the Xperia 1, ist's too expensive for not being advanced!
For me, unfortunately, the lack of wireless charging means I won't consider the X1 to be my next phone.
It's a feature I use daily and don't want to miss anymore. Also I don't like the new screen format...when the width is good then the phone becomes too long and when the length is good then the screen would be too narrow.
I will wait for a worthy successor for my XZ3.
A makeshift solution.
A Qi pad to type C plus magnet cord. Then just case your phone.
