Disc read error on windows 8

Hi!

I got a Sony Vaio SVE1512W1ESI for christmas, and I've had no problems with it up until yesterday. I was starting my computer and it told me that it was updating windows and what not.

Five minutes later it said that it had gotten a disc read error, and that it would take an hour to repair.

45 minutes later the screeen went all black. I tried to restart it, but the screen was all black. It doesnt tell me anything, except sometimes the sony vaio logo shows up for a while and then disappears.

What can I do to fix this problem?

Hi, mine is a similar story, got the notebook for xmas shut it down last night after working and could not get it to boot up past a blank screen, we switched it on theis morning using the assist button and not have some of the functions working but its locked me out as an admin and now im stuck, help!!!!!!!

As the original post in this thread was back in December, and it seems that no members of this community have a solution, I suggest that your best option is to contact official Sony support.

Thanks rich912 I was thinking that myself, i've managed to back up my files but its not letting me make any desisions as administrator. I'm thinking factory settings might be my last option.
