There are options available that will allow you to undervolt and / or reduce CPU speed to help keep your notebook cool. There is Centrino Hardware Control

And for the technically proficient, RM Clock - this utility also works with some AMD & Pentium 4 mobile chips.

A bonus side effect to the correct use of these is that you can also increase battery life.

Both of these are powerful utilities that can control basic hardware settings so care and common sense should be taken when using them. Don't use the utilities to 'overvolt' your equipment or you may suffer hardware failure.

If, after reading the documentation you are in any doubt as to how to use these utilities then don't use them
