I was thinking if the EU volume restriction, which is set for the hd1 & 3 models, is also set for the VP. I would imagine that it is
Therefore, the question is if anyone knows how to deactivate this limitation. It is know how to do it for the hd1 & hd3 (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184051) but the instructions are no good for the VP, as it has different key arrangements etc :smileythinking:
if you're feeling brave (!) try downloading and running the US firmware update - that's what i did with my ipod, I don't think it completley removed the limiter but it certainly helped. you'll probably also need to use the US version of sonicstage etc., depends on how much the volume means to you really.

Don't blame you! Personally I don't find the volume a problem, the only issue I do have is that when listening to it rhough a pair of cans, with ear plugs in and my drums in the background it's not loud enough. But other than that it's not a big enough issue to make it worth the risk.
The volume is not a big issue for me either, as I find it ok in general terms but it would be nice to have a bit of extra volume when I use my Sennheiser hd215s.....
I wouldnt do it. that volume limitor is there for a reason, to protect your ears. It may well prevent you from going deaf in your old age.
US Firmware for VP?
Newer than 3.0.0.C171F version?
Could you please provide a link?
I use SS3.0 so maybe I'm brave enough (oh my...).

I haven't tried it, and there's no reason why it'd be any more recent than the European update, but it may have the volume limiter removed (if there is one, EU regulations certainly meant the iPod had a volume limiter in the firmware). Sony US Good luck if you decide to try it, let us know how you get on. It's possible that it won't let you update, the iPod wouldn't change firmware backwards (EU firmware had version number x.1, US x.0 so it didn't recognise it as an update so wouldn't allow the firmware to be changed)
DON'T TRY IT! I Just did, it started the update procedure then the screen turned yellow and got the message ER005, no response to controls, wouldn't turn off, nothing!
I took it off its cradle, pressed the reset button.. backlight off.. screen not changing, but it has now restarted, no loss of data or anything, maybe a tiny bit louder, not really sure. I'm just happy my VP is still working! If you're still brave enough to try then go ahead, but I wouldn't recommend it, I don't know what the error meassage meant, it may be a faulty file or something.. but I don't think I'll bother trying again!
It might actually be louder - I'll compare with my brothers when I can.
I have the EU update on my Vaio Pocket, and running SS 3.0 US, I am really curious if it really removes the EU volume limiter when I upgrade to the US version mentioned above.
Can anybody tell me if it really works, because I don't want to loose anymore musicfiles, what happened after switching from 2.3 SS (EU) to 3.0 SS (US), my pc didn,t recognize my Pocket anymore and had to format it so I lost all my 7000 tracks with albumcovers, it was a HARD lesson.
