Note: Encrypting your SD card will restrict the use of USB storage

So some people are encountering a bug that you get the following message when using USB storage:

"Security policy restricts the use of usb storage".  Most online help puts this down to having a Device Administrator app that prevents this, or that you might have an Exchange Server or company email that prevents USB storage.

I have neither, and spent a while trying to find out why this happens, in turns out, the setting in "Lock screen & security" -> "Encrypt SD card" also prevents USB storage from working.  Why this is the case is baffling, since they should certainly be treated independently  - I would quite like to have my SD card encrypted but not my USB.

Anyway, if you're experiencing this issue, consider disabling sd card encryption.  This is either a Sony or Android bug.

Hi @darkdreamingdan,

It is correct that encrypting the SD card will restrict access to USB storage.

I will forward your thoughts on this as user feedback and I'm sorry for any inconvenience it causes.
