Xperia Z headphone jack won't detect headphone

I was listening to music and then after a while I realized the music wasn't coming from my earphones anymore but from the phone's speakers, even when the earphones were plugged in. I tried plugging them in again several times, still won't work. Is it a software update issue, or a hardware issue? My earphones work fine on my laptop, so i don't think it's an issue with my earphones.

FOR XPERIA Z5 PREMIUM SOUND JACK PROBLEM

IMPORTANT: please read all of these first, I know you are frustrated but remember patience is the key to solving problems. You need a clear head before you do this.

Hi. I just had this problem just a little while ago. I read on forums for solutions cause I was really frustrated because my phone cannot recognize my earphones. Let me tell you something first. If your earphones works only on one ear on your phone but works well with both on other phones, this may actually help you. If your earphone needs to be pushed or moved on the sound jack for the sound to be heard on  the earphones, this may also help you. BUT YOU NEED TO BE PATIENT for this to actually work. So here's what I've done.

First, with an earcleaner (the cue tip, cotton buds or earbuds. don't know if thats what you call it). Clean your jack with it, use minimal force, just twist the cleaner or turn it once or twice whatsoever to remove dirt inside the jack. After cleaning it, go to SETTINGS>APPS>SMARTCONNECT>DATASTORAGE>CLEAR STORAGE>CLEAR CACHE.  After you've cleared all, go to playstore then DOWNLOAD the SOUNDABOUT App. After installing it, allow the app to make changes on your phone. NOW, open soundabout then go to MEDIA AUDIO, choose either wired headphones or wired headset(with mic). After that CLOSE THE APP. DO NOT CHANGE ANY OTHER SETTING IN THE SOUNDABOUT APP. NOW WAIT FOR ABOUT A MINUTE FOR IT TO MAKE CHANGES ON YOUR PHONE. After waiting, go to your music app, plug your earphones, play a song, in your first try it will or it will not play on your earphones, be patient remember, now push your earphones on your jack then turn it  once or twice or thrice blah blah until you can hear the song you are playing on your earphones. If it starts playing on your earphones. Hit pause on your music app, unplug your earphones then plug it in again then hit play. Now your phone recognizes your earphones and your music will now be playing on your earphones. You can also see that your earphones that was playing on one ear only now plays on both buds. Problem solved.

I don't know of this will work on other phones aside from sony, but maybe as long as you have smart connect since it was the one I used.

I bought Ink'd 2 Black w/Mic and it worked only for one time then my device doesn't detect it when I plug it in!

Here what I did to get it working again:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > ALL > Smart Connect. and clear it's data.
  2. Go to Play Store and install SoundAbout.
  3. Open SoundAbout app and go to Media Audio and select your headset type in my case I selected [Wired Headset (with Mic)]
  4. Plug-in your headset and the device should detect it now! :smileysmileywink:

Note:

After getting your headset working you can go ahead and uninstall SoundAbout :smileysmileythumbsup:

SoundsAbout (SoundTurd) doesn't work. App closes on open... Audio Router (play store) solved issue.

I agree, I purchased my Sony 2 yrs ago and have always had problems with it.  It freezes, the headphone jack does not work,  people call me, my phone doesn't ring.  There are numerous problems I can list.  But its too many to post.  Absolutely agree 120%

2018 I'm using Lesser Audio Switch. Really works for me.

I'm using this after I switched from Soundabout which doesn't work anymore.
